The first thing to master is staying in the wave. once you can learn where to position your body and how to use a fall back/come forward motion with no tension from the rope you are ready to move on to the next step. pumping up and down the wave and learning how to maximize the waves energy comes next. you can practice shifting your weight and using your legs and hips to drive the board forward using the momentum to drive up to the top of the wave, and than drop back in, almost like a skate ramp. Make sure not to point the board perpendicular to the wave or boat, otherwise you will get too far out and lose all speed. You can also practice getting o top of the wave with the rope to get the same feel.
