Have you ever thought about what a wave is?

A wave is actually a ball of energy rolling through the water. This means the energy is not just on the surface, but a circular motion moving through the water. When the top of the circle moves faster than the bottom of the circle it breaks on itself causing the white water to form on the face of the wave.

Foil surfing you are riding the energy that is under the water unlike a surfboard where you are riding the energy on the. surface. That. said, often on a foil you will feel energy under the water where you did not expect it. Hydrofoils are so efficient that they will glide and pick up lift off any little energy under the water. Even just a little wind chop can create a little energy under the water you may feel. Just like wind and speed give the wings of an airplane lift, so the energy in the water and speed will also give a hydrofoil lift allowing you to glide effortlessly through the water.

A great example of an area you might not expect energy that will give you speed is behind the wave. You can actually go behind the lip of a wave and still continue to gain speed and lift. On a surfboard you only loose speed behind a wave, but not on a foil. Way out in front of the wave is another place there is still energy that will propel a foil board. Foil Surfing will open up the canvas of surfing as you know it.

I now look at the water completely different! The more time you spend on a foil the more you begin to see the energy under the water. Come fly with Surf n’ Foil Tahoe and experience the harnessing of the energy under the water and let us stretch out your smile!
